John

Skelton

Hello, Skelton family and researchers!

I am John Skelton. I lived about 48 years of my life not knowing anything about my Skelton ancestors. Nothing. I knew my Mom, my Dad, and my 3 brothers. I knew I had uncles and cousins, but literally knew nothing about them.

But all that changed on February 12, 2012, when I sat down and opened a trial account on ancestry.com. Since then, I've travelled to several states, visited historical societies, libraries, archives, and people's homes. I've attended genealogy seminars on proper research techniques, DNA analysis, and so much more.

I can now definitively trace my Skelton roots to John Skelton, my 7x great grandfather and immigrant ancestor. I can prove that he was in America no later than November 1666. He owned land. He was a rebel in Bacon's Rebellion and had to beg the King for a pardon. He died in the James River when his boat capsized. His oldest son died with him.

Over the years, I've collected thousands of pages of research material. I have books, deeds, wills, Bible records, maps, pictures, and correspondence from other research throughout the decades that our family has been researched.

My goal with this website is to make much of that research available to others. This will be a site that is always under construction. I hope to add to it regularly. And I hope you help!

I encourage you to share your research and family records with me and other Skeltons all over the world.

Thanks for visiting the Skelton History website. Please email me and let me know what you think.
